Computers were never just for games for me. At 11, I started making YouTube videos, with some reaching thousands of views and building an audience of hundreds of subscribers. But the actual spark came in primary school, seeing HTML for the first time. The idea of fully controlling what appears on a web page was instantly addicting.

I chose to go to an IT secondary school, where I quickly rose to the top of my class and started competing in programming competitions. By 18, in my final year, I was already offered a job at a software company, gaining real industry experience early. Around the same time, a rented VPS became my playground for tinkering with Linux, Docker, and building personal projects.

After graduating, I decided to pursue Computer Science at Masaryk University in Brno. At the start of my second semester, a company reached out with a software engineering offer. The role at the Institute of Computer Science is full-stack development, focused on building a web dashboard that helps molecular dynamics scientists manage simulations and visualize results. Over a year into the project, the freedom to choose technologies and tools has been one of the best parts. Knowing the work directly helps researchers make new discoveries makes it even more rewarding.

Outside of work, my biggest recent project is StockWatcher (https://stocks.salonek.org), an application for quickly finding undervalued stocks. I built all the quantitative algorithms from scratch and use AI for qualitative analysis. An investing bot ties it all together, running a custom strategy as a live test. I've also contributed to open source, with a 500-line PR merged into yfinance, a Python library with millions of monthly downloads.

More recently, writing code by hand has taken a backseat to Claude Code. Tinkering with LLMs and finding creative ways to squeeze value out of them has become a bit of an obsession. When I'm not at a keyboard, sim racing is my go-to way to unwind.
